Lousy Ink, a Melbourne-based art-driven enterprise, officially came to life in 2017 through the collaborative efforts of two passionate artists, Oli Ruskidd and Mike Eleven. Despite their limited business experience, their shared enthusiasm for art and the environment paved the way for Lousy Ink's remarkable journey.
In 2017, while sharing a residence, Oli Ruskidd brought home a bottle of recycled ink from his uncle, a chemist at Close The Loop, who provided him with a supply to test. Recognising the potential of this sustainable resource, Oli and Mike decided to leverage it to raise awareness within the local art community about environmentally responsible art-making techniques.
What happens to your ink cartridges after they are recycled?
The foundation of Lousy Ink's sustainable initiative is the "Cartridges 4 Planet Ark" campaign, who recycle old ink cartridges in the following process:
1. Recycle and Reuse: Cartridges 4 Planet Ark facilitates the collection and recycling of inkjet printer cartridges through collection boxes across Australia.
2. Rescue and Deliver: Collected cartridges are expertly gathered and transported to Close The Loop for processing.
3. Filtering the Ink: Cartridges are crushed and filtered to extract plastics and any remaining ink, resulting in 100% recycled plastic and the reclaimed printer cartridge ink which are the basis of Lousy Ink's products.
