10. What is recycled paper?
Recycled paper is paper made from post-consumer waste or pre-consumer waste fibres. Post-consumer waste refers to paper that has been used by consumers and then recycled, such as office paper or newspapers. Pre-consumer waste, on the other hand, refers to paper scraps and trimmings generated during the manufacturing process. Recycled paper helps reduce the demand for new raw materials, conserves energy, and minimises waste going to landfills.
11. What is FSC certified paper?
FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council, an international organisation that promotes responsible forest management. FSC certified paper comes from forests that have been independently audited and verified to meet rigorous environmental and social standards. By choosing FSC certified paper, you support sustainable forestry practices, including protecting biodiversity, respecting the rights of indigenous peoples, and prohibiting deforestation.
12. What does compostable mean?
Compostable refers to materials that can be broken down and transformed into compost through natural processes. Compostable materials are designed to biodegrade under specific conditions, such as in industrial composting facilities or backyard compost bins. These materials break down into nutrient-rich soil, contributing to a circular economy and reducing waste. It is important to note that compostable materials require specific conditions for proper decomposition and may not break down in regular landfill environments.
